          Since you should start with basic C++ i recommend Bloodshed Dev C++ which is good compiler for normal C++ applications:
          Bloodshed Software - Dev-C++

          Also, Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition is free compiler:

          Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition

              NO, IT ISNT!

              Dev C++ is outdated and buggy and its not beeing developed anymore. The last update was years ago. Don't use it.

              I recommend Visual c++ 2008 or Code::Blocks

                Ok Master!

                I used it last time like 2 years ago for basic C++ tutorials etc. and it worked fine without any problems but yeah, Visual C++ 2008 does the trick very good also :p

                              It's not supposed to, that is just tutorial which shows code at left screen, and output at right screen to simplify things. It's not supposed to look like in that example. That code will just show text "Hello world" in "DOS" screen since it's console application.
